This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week is junior runner Payton Castro. It was a full year for Castro for the Cedar Ridge indoor & outdoor track and field teams. Castro was consistently one of Cedar Ridge’s top sprinters during the indoor season, where she competed in numerous polar bear events at East Chapel Hill, Southeastern Alamance and Eastern Alamance High Schools. She ran the 300 meter dash in 46.85 seconds on January 28 in Haw River. Castro ran the 55 meter dash in 8.05 seconds during the final indoor meet of the regular season in Mebane. Her indoor season-best came in the 500 meters, where she finished fourth with a time of 1:30.90. From there, Castro journeyed to the outdoor season, where she was the top sprinter for Cedar Ridge in the opening Central Conference meet at Red Wolves Stadium. In the 100 meter dash, Castro finished fifth with a time of 13.84 seconds. In the 200 meters, she came in fourth at 28.64 seconds. Castro would improve on her 200 meter time in the Central Conference championships, where she finished at 28.36 seconds. Outside of track & field, Castro is with the Future Farmers of America and loves working with animals. She also works at the Sienna Hotel in Chapel Hill, where she ran into numerous celebrities including the Wrexham FC team from Wales.
